Dear Families,
We are starting our second week of testing and I am happy to report that everything is going well!
It is amazing to realize that the end of the year is coming up so quickly. There are several items that you may find of interest and I would strongly encourage you to take part in.
–First, the annual LCH Parent Survey is now open and available online for you to participate in. It will be open until May 31st. Please take some time to let your voice be heard. You are a very important part of our school community! The site is: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LCH2011PARENTSURVEY
–Second, OPEN HOUSE will be NEXT WEEK on the 26th of May from 6:00-7:00. You will want to see your students’ general education classes, of course, but please stop by and visit us in the LRC as well
–Third, the VOLUNTEER BRUNCH is coming up on June 2nd. Mark your calendars, all you busy and wonderful people who do so much to help in and around our school and classrooms!!
Also, most of you will be looking forward to the May 30th Memorial Day Holiday. Enjoy yourselves!!
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!!
Many of you already know this, but with the time flying by as it is I’m feeling that I need to let everyone know that I am going to retire at the end of this year. I made this decision in late February, and of course, have mixed feelings. I will miss my work with the children and families very much. However, I will be wishing every one of you the very best in the years to come.
Meanwhile, let’s make sure we continue to work together to end this year on a great note!
Keep in Touch!

Hello Everyone!
I hope you all had wonderful breaks. We have had an excellent first week back at school.
It is a busy time when we are assisting with major projects as well as beginning to do some preparation for CST (STAR) testing. The actual testing weeks are: May 9-20 and will be upon us sooner than we expect.
Other items to keep in mind include strawberry sales after school on Wednesdays (going on right now) and Open House on May 26th.
As always, feel free to contact me with any questions you may have at any time!

I am delighted to introduce our student teacher, Chandra McAtee! She comes to us from Azusa Pacific University and will be staying through June. If you have an IEP coming up, she will undoubtedly be observing and you can meet her. Otherwise, feel free to introduce yourself!
A number of important events are on the horizon at La Costa Heights, as usual. The JOG-A-THON will take place on April 1st, the day before Spring break. Please be sure the children wear appropriate shoes, especially. Spring break follows for two wonderful weeks (April 4-17); and, just for future reference, open house takes place in May on the evening of 26th.
I hope you are all gearing up for a fantastic two week break!

Hope everyone is avoiding or, at least, recovering from this awful flu that is going around!
It is nice to have our 6th graders back from a wonderful week at camp. I went up one day and enjoyed hiking and rock climbing with our students. Everyone looked great and was finishing up their super souvenirs just in time for home-going the following day. The essays they have written about their experiences there are almost as fun as being at camp with them!
BUSINESS ITEMS:
–CONFERENCE WEEK is coming up: March 7-11. Please look for the sign up sheets the general education teachers will be sending home and fill them out as promptly as possible. Since I generally attend conferences upon request, be sure to let me know if you would like me to attend yours.
–Also coming up (more quickly than we know) is Spring break: April 4-15th.
The year seems to be flying by
As always, contact me at any time with questions, concerns, or comments!
Take care,

Hi Families,
We are happy to be into a new, improved schedule that
has the children involved in some fantastic activities with
PE, Music and Multimedia. Don’t worry, however, as their
teachers and I are making sure that we still get their
requisite minutes in for LRC time! As always, if you have
any questions let me know.
Mrs. Brady has published a nice description of “The Wheel”
which I will include for your benefit below.
Wishing everyone all the best in 2011!
Jennifer
From Mrs. Brady:
Our new enrichment rotation program (The Wheel)
will begin Monday, January 10th. Lessons provided
in the rotation are Music, P.E. and Multimedia.
Three highly qualified teachers have been hired
to implement the program. Letters of introduction
are available by hard copy, through the PTA e-packet
and on the Principal’s Blog. Students in grades 4 – 6
will rotate by grade level once every other week
and grades K – 3 students will rotate once weekly.
This new rotation will provide quality enrichment
for our students while giving their teachers the
necessary collaboration time to develop essential
standards, create benchmark assessments to monitor
progress and design a common formative assessment
to track student progress. Please see your child’s
teacher for additional information.

Happy New Year!
What an amazingly fast start we have had to the year. I hope everyone is planning to enjoy their break and comes back refreshed!
Time on your hands? You may want to have your students try out the learning games on this site or their teachers’. Both parents and kids are reporting that they very happy with the learning and fun that happen simultaneously when these games are chosen appropriately.
Happy Holidays, Everyone!

I hope this finds everyone doing well and looking forward to our two week break. It is hard to believe that it is already upon us! We have had a very smooth start in the LRC this year. I was also pleased that students were getting reasonable reports at their conference times, and have really stepped up their efforts in areas needed since that time. Thank you parents for your support!
As was true last year, we have a class-wide reinforcement system in the LRC. Students get stickers on a sticker chart and when they earn enough (the number of stickers, depends upon individual “contract”), they get to choose from a variety of reinforcers. Some of the choices include: a variety of small size potato chips, playing a game with a friend at lunch, eating lunch with me, choosing from treasure box (little notepads, fancy looking pencil grips, fancy pencils, etc.) and/or something the student and I agree will work. This reinforcement system is key to creating motivation and positive attitudes in my classroom. If at any time you have suggestions – especially for your student – that would be great. Donations are also welcome
.
Just a reminder that this week (October 11-15) is Red Ribbon Week. Wednesday is the day to wear red, but activities will be going on all week long!
Have a great break and as you travel, enjoy Halloween, and other activities — keep safe!
